Personal History | It was 7'o clock in the evening. Rehan's mother was performing evening puja. The smell of incense sticks filled the air, and the atmosphere became quite light. Suddenly there was a knock on the door. "Coming" Rehan called out, and rushed to the door to open it. He looked up and saw 2 men standing in front of him, wearing shirts and trousers. One of them flashed an identity card. "West Bengal State Division of the Department of Magical Affairs, Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt of India. May we come in?" As Rehan boarded the plane, that fateful letter grabbed tightly in his hand, he was all worked up. He was going to this wizard school known as "Castelobruxo", in Brazil. Not that India did not have any wizarding schools, but because there was a family friend already teaching in that school ("Dont ask how",his father had answered when Rehan asked how did he know this guy.) Getting the visa was tough, though. Multiple trips to the Department, Ministry of External Affairs and the Brazilian embassy finally got him his special passport and Visa. That explained why he was taken to a separate room to be checked by Customs. As Rehan sat in his seat, multiple thoughts began running through his head-- mostly about the day those guys came. It still looked like a dream-- wizards, witches, magic....he was now not sure what to believe and what not to. Today if he was told that pigs fly, he would perhaps believe it. As the flight attendant repeated final boarding instructions, he patted his bag, feeling the 9 and 1/2 inch stick which the wandmaker guy in Delhi told was now a very extension of his hand. He nervous, scared, excited...yet, somehow, as the plane lights dimmed, his eyes became heavy due to exhaustion. He took out that eye-pad he bought at airport. It was a long flight to Brazil. He might as well get some sleep. |
